History and Background

While fishing in this way, they only use one leg for rowing and free their hands to handle the fishing net when catching large fish. Since childhood, they own their dazzling fishing skills and it is one of daily routines of Intha tribe and also one of the main livelihoods . Besides, the main one to keep this leg rowing tradition is Phaung Daw Oo pagoda festival. It is held annually for 18 days in Thadingyut (from September to October) and the prominent activity of this festival is leg rowing races of villages around the Inle lake.
