HISTORY

Mandalay Hill is a must visit place when you are in Mandalay. The first thing that will grab your attention is a pair of huge lion statues guarding the stairway that leads to the hill. The Hill is 230m above sea level, providing a scenic view of the entire city. The sunrise and sunset at this hill is a must-see. Some tourists even risk climbing the stairway of the hill barefooted only to witness the beautiful scenery.

It is highly recommended to walk and join the locals in colourful processions and prayers. From the top of the hill, you will be able to spot some of Mandalay’s landmarks like Mya Nan San Kyaw Palace, Kuthodaw Pagoda, Shwe Mann Taung Golf Course, an 18-hole course and the stunning scenery of Mandalay. You will find hawkers selling food and beverages at the foot of the hill.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

It is best to go in the evening right before sunset as the view cannot be missed. Visit from October to March to experience a pleasant climate.
