Often termed as the best beach in Myanmar, Ngapali Beach will take your breath away. It is the most famous seaside destination of Myanmar and a visit to this place will reveal why it is so. This beautiful long beach is located around 300 kilometres northwest of Yangon, on the western coast of Myanmar.

If you are looking to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the place to be. It is a romantic getaway where you will be busy sitting on the beach, soaking in nature and sipping on coconut water. Since the beach faces westwards, you can enjoy stunning views of the sunset.

Things To Do


Ngapali Beach will give you the much craved for opportunity to simply sit back, relax and enjoy. The beach is primarily divided into two portions – south beach and north beach. The south beach is longer, stretching between Ngapali village and Gyeiktaw, a fishing village. Although most of the hotels are located here, the beach maintains its calm nature. The north beach, on the other hand, extends northwards starting from the airport. Most of the luxury hotels are located here. The sand in both the stretches is fine and light coloured, ideal for walking barefoot.


You can take a boat trip from Ngapali and embark on some exciting adventure. Boats are easily available for hire. A 4-hour private boat will cost around 30,000 Kyats. The boat will take you around the small islands, located off the coast. The most popular island is Pearl Island, which is often compared to paradise. Enjoy a walk on the stunning beach, which extends for quite a few kilometres. Pearl Island also has several bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a drink while soaking in the feel of the beach. The boats also halt in the midst of the sea so you can enjoy snorkelling in the pristine waters.


The standing Buddha atop the hill overlooking the coastline is a must-visit place while you are at Ngapali Beach. Named Tilawkasayambhu Budhha, this Buddha statue is believed to save Ngapali from natural disasters. You can catch the stunning view of the beach, the coastline and the village from the mountain top. You can hire an e-bike to climb up the hill. There is no visiting fee to see the Buddha statue. However, since it is a place of religious importance, ensure to wear decent clothing covering your shoulders and knees.


Ngapali Beach is lined with eateries big and small. All of them whip up a variety of dishes with the fresh seafood caught by the local fishermen. The shacks located on the beach are reasonably priced and the food is delicious. You will find similar menus in most restaurants. Some of the must-haves are fresh seafood barbecue including a variety of fish, crabs, prawns and squid, the traditional food of Myanmar and the exotic coffee of Myanmar. You should also try the traditional curries served at these restaurants.
